Episode 1 Why Me?

I have no real reason why you should read my blogs. I am a nobody who eats and breaths sports. I work your normal 9-5 but sprinkled throughout the day are constant trips to Twitter/X for updates on what is happening in sports, as well as other sites to confirm the news I read and see. I am like many of you out there who may feel stuck where you are at and your main outlet is sports. This blog may be amazing, or it could suck but I am thankful that you are still here reading this 30 seconds into my first episode. I want to make people laugh, cry, argue, agree and do it all in the name of sports. I hope you join me in this journey and I can not wait to interact with you all.

Before we get started I feel like it is important to explain the 5 teams I cheer for so you all know who my biases are for and why you are wrong when you disagree with me. I am typically not one for doing rankings but this felt necessary. There are 3 different stipulations that I felt should dictate where and why I ranked the 5 teams. It is also important to note that I grew up in New York and so you will get a general understanding of why I cheer for certain teams. Before the long awaited list, the 3 stipulations are as follows. 1. Do I go out of my way to watch every game? What I mean by this is am I going to cancel date night with my wife, am I even going to have a date night planned? 2. How long does it take me to get over a loss in the playoffs? Am I going to share an intimate bath with a toaster?I am not going to lie, when my favorite teams season ultimately comes to an end (obviously unless it is a championship) I am crushed for days. I want to be alone. I need to break something. I go to the gym. I put my own sweat and tears into these teams and I understand some of you may find that odd that a grown man cares so much about other grown men playing a sport, but I don't care what you think. The last thing is if my team wins a championship, how likely am I to cry? It has been a while since my teams have won anything so most tears that come from me are because my teams lose. I think you all get the idea and so ranked from 5 being my least favorite to 1, here are my favorite teams.

  1. The Brooklyn Nets

Formally known as the New Jersey Nets. Growing up in New York, my uncle was a huge fan. Unfortunate for me I wanted to follow his fandom and decided that being a Nets fan was worth the pain and torture of the next many years of my life. Now I have certainly had my fair share of good moments. the 2 finals appearances in the early 2000s with the likes of Jason Kidd, Kerry Kittles, Kenyon Martin and of course Keith Van Horn. Having my all time favorite NBA athlete, Vince Carter, was must see TV each night he played. Even the years of Deron Williams and the experiment that did not worth with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were fun enough. But nothing will make me more upset than the big three that was never healthy enough to be together. Durant, Harden and Kyrie. When that happened, I thought that I was finally going to see my basketball team win a championship, only for it to completely come crashing down in perfect Nets fashion (even though we were a Kevin Durant toe away from beating the Bucks in which the Nets would have won the championship).

4. Arizona State University (All Teams)

The 2023-24 ASU football season may go down as one of my favorite seasons ever for any sport that I have ever watched in any year of my existence. Losing in heartbreak fashion to Texas in the quarters will be one of the harder losses that I will suffer and by far the hardest one for ASU. I am a college graduate from the school which I have been told as long as I spelt my name correctly on my papers that I would get my degree. At the time of you reading this, Bobby Hurley may or may not be the men's head coach for the basketball team which unfortunately I believe is time. His hot head act and recently his over reaction during the UOA game officially did it for me. Even the fans at the next home game were cheering for him to be fired. Anyway, this is not about him but for my love for ASU.

  1. The New York Rangers

This is when it starts to get tough for me, ranking these last 3 teams. My whole life I have been longing to see the Rangers raise the cup. I was 4 years old the time they last won and of course, I have no memory of that. I have witnessed nothing but heartbreak and agony in the playoffs since. 2014 was supposed to be their year and then they lost to the kings. 2019 after the kid line scored the goal against Tampa where they were in the Lightnings zone for what seemed like an hour, I KNEW they were going to win that year. Last year being up against the Panthers just for Mika to not bury a crucial goal that would have expanded their lead and maybe putting that series out of reach, was the end of him. I just do not know if I will ever be fortunate enough to witness them winning a cup. Out of all my teams, they are who I need to see win a championship before I die.

  1. The Green Bay Packers

There is no place I would rather be than at Lambeau field on a random December day or night when the Packers are playing a home game. It is my favorite sporting venue that I have ever been to live. it has been nearly over 14 years since I last witnessed this franchise hoist the trophy named after their historic coach. Those years have been filled with much disappointment and many sleepness nights after the playoff loss. To name a few 2011,2014,2020,2022 and even Jordan Loves first year starting when they lost to the Niners. I do believe that I will witness them win again. I think they are close and I am happy with the path they are on. But then again I thought the same was going to be true for my favorite sports team which we might as well finish this off with.

  1. The New York Yankees

My life. My kings. I love the Yankees more than ALMOST everything in my life. They are my team. Growing up I played baseball and all I ever wanted in life was to be on the Yankees one day. 2009. I did not believe this would be the last time they won the world series. This is by far the longest stretch I have gone without season them with a championship. I know you all do not care about my sorrow but whatever. I need to see them win again. I need to see Judge and Cole get their rings. It has been long enough and baseball is only good when the Yankees win. I am obsessed with them and I am also intolerable. Arguments always welcome but I am the stupid and annoying fan who will always say 27.

Thats it. If you have made it all the way to the end of this first chapter, Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope to create a platform that we can all be apart of, have fun, argue and joke with but doing it in a respectable and loving way.
